Cabaret Flamenco at Espace culturel du Vieux Lyon

From our historic stage in the heart of the old town, we are proud to welcome Cabaret Flamenco, a vibrant encounter with cante, toque, and baile that brings the spirit of the tablao to Espace culturel du Vieux Lyon. We curate this evening as an intimate conversation between artists and audience, where the compás carries through the stone and the air ripples with palmas. Our venue is designed for proximity: you will hear the breath between steps, the rasp of a rasgueado, the whisper before a heel strikes the floor. As a cultural house anchored in the Renaissance quarter, we champion living traditions, and Cabaret Flamenco aligns perfectly with our mission—rooted in heritage, alive to the present. Expect an elegant sequence of solos and ensemble moments, with contrasts between the deep gravity of cante jondo and the luminous lift of alegrías, between the meditative pulse of soleá and the festive swirl of bulerías. More than a recital, this is a shared experience, a night built on improvisation, listening, and the charged electricity that only live performance can sustain.

A living, breathing tablao in the heart of Vieux Lyon

This season, we present Cabaret Flamenco as a living platform for creation, with a rotating cuadro of dancers, singers, and guitarists whose current artistic momentum can be felt from the first compás. The program embraces both tradition and new work: freshly minted choreographic sketches born in studio residencies at our venue, spirited re-interpretations of tangos and tientos, and playful dialogues between cajón, palmas, and guitar that reveal new harmonic colors. Our team has shaped the evening to balance structure and spontaneity—seguiriya’s tension released into a joyous fin de fiesta, a farruca’s sculpted lines answered by the earthy warmth of tangos de Triana. We value encounters as much as repertoire; Cabaret Flamenco invites guest artists on select dates to test new material, trade cantes, and deepen the conversation between Lyon’s scene and Andalusian tradition. Between numbers, audiences witness the creative intelligence of flamenco up close: how a dancer builds a llamada, how a cantaor phrases a lyric, how the guitarist threads the room’s energy into a single rhythmic breath. In short, it is contemporary artistic news carried on the oldest medium—bodies, voices, wood, and air.

As hosts, we have tuned our space to the art. The stage is set to capture every nuance of zapateado, with wooden resonance that flatters sharp taconeo and soft caricias alike. Sightlines place you within the circle of artists, where subtle exchanges—an eyebrow, a palmas cue, a whispered “¡olé!”—become part of the dramaturgy. Cabaret Flamenco unfolds as a curated journey: an opening cuadro to awaken the room; contrasting palos that travel from Cádiz’s bright shores to the inner night of cante jondo; a dialogue of footwork and guitar where silence is as expressive as sound; and an exuberant bulerías finale that invites collective release. Around the performance, we nurture a convivial atmosphere typical of a tablao: time to arrive, breathe, and connect; a rhythm that favors presence over haste. For audiences discovering flamenco, the evening is a welcoming gateway; for aficionados, it offers the thrill of risk and the pleasure of detail—new falsetas, daring remates, and the eloquence of a dancer crafting a cuadro in real time. At Espace culturel du Vieux Lyon, Cabaret Flamenco is not just scheduled—it is cared for, amplified, and shared, a night where the city’s old stones meet the living fire of an art that never stops becoming.
