Radiant-Bellevue welcomes Kaleidoscope by Käfig and Mourad Merzouki

At Radiant-Bellevue in Caluire-et-Cuire, we look forward to opening our stage to Kaleidoscope by Käfig and Mourad Merzouki, a choreographic experience that amplifies the poetry of movement through pattern, rhythm, and constantly shifting perspectives. From our vantage point as host, we value how Merzouki’s language blends the physical virtuosity of hip-hop with the clarity of contemporary composition, inviting audiences to watch bodies refract and recombine like a living prism. In the lineage of emblematic creations such as Pixel, Boxe Boxe, and Folia, Kaleidoscope places group writing at the center: canons that ripple across the ensemble, sudden silences, and bursts of unison that bloom into intricate counterpoint. Our stage is designed to honor this precision, with sightlines that catch the breadth of the formations as well as the intimate textures of footwork and breath. What you will see here is a meeting between athletic impulse and musicality, a choreography that appears to turn itself, image after image, until a larger picture emerges.

The artist’s momentum, our stagecraft, and the evening we are preparing

Hosting Käfig means engaging with an artist whose current trajectory remains both inventive and generous. Mourad Merzouki continues to tour internationally, revisiting core works while unveiling new creations that test the limits between dance, visual art, and stage technology. In recent seasons, his projects have reaffirmed a commitment to collective energy—bringing together dancers of diverse backgrounds, building bridges with digital designers and musicians, and cultivating educational initiatives for emerging performers. The pulse of that momentum animates Kaleidoscope: it is a work that listens closely to the ensemble, where a flurry of gestures can feel like a narrative, and a single pause can redraw the space. From our side at Radiant-Bellevue, we attend to the dramaturgy of the evening—calibrating light and sound so that each shift of color or tempo serves the choreographic logic. We collaborate with Käfig’s technical team well ahead of the performance, shaping cues in the theater’s volume so that the images breathe and the dancers’ articulations read with clarity from every section of the hall.

For audiences joining us at Radiant-Bellevue, the experience of Kaleidoscope will be one of immersion and focus. The architecture of our room frames the piece’s geometry: broad sweeps of ensemble writing cut across the stage, while smaller configurations—duets that twist and release, trios that spark and dissolve—register with crisp detail. We’re attentive to the way Merzouki engineers contrast: the elasticity of floorwork against the stillness of a standing line, the grain of sneakers meeting the stage against a luminous wash of color. Our commitment is to let the choreography speak, to allow the dancers’ timing, breath, and collective intelligence to be the protagonist. From the first cue, you will sense the care placed into the meeting between work and venue: a balance of power and finesse that sustains attention moment to moment. We are proud to welcome Käfig to Caluire, just north of Lyon, and to share an evening where the vocabulary of hip-hop becomes architecture—shaping space, bending perception, and returning us to the joy of seeing patterns come alive.
